My Own Counting Book

Supplies:

  • ~ Paper (red, yellow & blue)
  • ~ Black markers
  • ~ Hole punch
  • ~ Yarn
  • ~ Stickers

Directions:

  • ~ Place one red, one yellow and one blue piece of paper in a stack. Cut the paper in half, horizontally. Then cut each half in half vertically.
  • ~ Give each child a stack of the cut paper that has 2 reds, 2 blues and 2 yellows.
  • ~ Have the children stack their papers into a color pattern from top to bottom. Example: red, yellow, blue, red, yellow, blue
  • ~ Once they have their paper in a patterned order, have them take turns letting you punch two holes on the left edge of the stack.
  • ~ Print the words: Counting with (Name) on the top page of the stack. Two and three year olds will need an adult to print their letters and numbers. Four and five year olds may be able to print their own.
  • ~ Starting with the back side of the cover, print a number (one through ten) on each of the pages.
  • ~ Have the children place the correct number of stickers on each page to correspond with each number.
  • ~ When they are finished, tie a piece of yarn through the holes to bind the book together.
  • ~ Encourage each child to read his/her book to you.
