Sticks and Stones

 

   Serving Size:
2/3 cup is a grain serving for a 3 - 5 year old at snack

Ingredients:

4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1/4 cup frozen orange or apple juice concentrate
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
3 cups square oat or rice cereal
2 cups pretzel sticks
1 1/2 cups almond(s)
1 cup raisins or dried cranberries

Directions:
Heat oven to 300 degrees. Place the butter or margarine, juice concentrate, and brown sugar in a large microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 45 seconds to melt butter. Stir in cinnamon. Spread the cereal squares, pretzels and almonds in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toss the pieces with the melted butter or margarine mixture to coat. Bake the mix, stirring the pieces every 10 minutes until mixture is dry to the touch and nuts are lightly toasted, about 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and then stir in the dried fruit. Let mix cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
