Exploring Apples

Materials

  • ~ A Variety Of Apples (Red, Yellow, Green, Small, Medium, Large, Etc...)
  • ~ A Paring Knife

Wash the apples and place in a bowl. Ask the children about the characteristics (color, size, shape, weight of apples). Ask them about the parts of the apple (peel, stem, core). Discuss how apples grow. Slice the apples and taste each of the different kinds. Ask the children to describe how they taste. Do they each taste different? Sweet, sour, tart or bland. Apples are a good source of fiber. Fiber helps our foods pass through and out of our bodies.
