Chinese Lanterns & Fans

  • ~ Construction Paper
  • ~ Glue
  • ~ Scissors
  • ~ Crayons
  • ~ Paint
  • ~ Stapler

Have each child decorate a piece of rectangular construction paper with crayons or paint. Let dry.

To make a lantern, cut strips in a construction paper parallel to the shorter side every inch or so, starting down about one inch from the top edge and stopping about one inch from the bottom edge.

Make a circular shape by joining together the two short edges with tape or by stapling. Push lightly on the top and bottom of the cylinder so the lantern bows slightly.

To make a fan, fold paper changing direction every other fold. Staple together one edge to make a fan shape.
