Exploring Peppers

Materials

  • ~ A Variety of Peppers (Red, Green, Yellow, Chili)
  • ~ Paring Knife
  • ~ A Dip of Your Choice

Wash peppers and place in a bowl or on a large plate. Have the children identify the different characteristics of peppers such as color, size, shape, bumps (which are called lobes).

Talk about the way peppers grow. Cut open peppers both lengthwise in strips and crosswise in rings and examine the insides. Have the children identify the parts.

Taste both plain and with dip. Have the children describe the taste (sweet, sour, spicy).

Peppers are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps our bodies heal cuts and fight infections.
