Peter Rabbit Salad

 

Ingredients

  • ~ 1/4 cup Shredded Carrot
  • ~ 2 Raisins
  • ~ 1 Pear Half (1/4 cup)
  • ~ Snips of Marshmallow
  • ~ 1 Maraschino Cherry
  • ~ Lettuce


  • ~ Have the children wash their hands.
  • ~ Allow the children to wash lettuce and carrot. Discuss the importance of using clean food and utensils in cooking. Talk about where carrots and lettuce come from and what food group they belong to. Allow each child to tear a lettuce leaf from the head and place on their plates.
  • ~ Assisting the children as needed, allow them to shred the carrot using the vegetable peeler.
  • ~ Allow the children to open pear can, if able. Have each child pick out a pear half and place on a lettuce leaf. Discuss where pears come from and what food group they belong to. Have each child place 1/8 cup shredded carrot on sides of pear.
  • ~ Have each child pick out a maraschino cherry and place on small end of pear for nose and two raisins for eyes.
  • ~ Help children in cutting a marshmallow into 3 pieces with a scissors. Place 2 smaller pieces on head for ears and the larger pieces for the tail.

Yield: one salad.

Serving Size: one salad is 1/2 cup serving of fruit or vegetable at snack for a 3-6 year old.
