Our Five Senses Game

To develop an appreciation of our senses, blindfold each child and let him/her taste certain familiar foods (such as oranges, celery, bread) while holding their noses. Identifying food this way usually is hard for children and makes them realize that sense of taste often depends upon smell and sight.

A variation is to make sounds behind a curtain (pouring water into a pan, dropping a block, ringing a bell) and let the children guess the sound. This game demonstrates how we often depend on seeing what's happening rather than on hearing the sound.

Another variation of this game is to let the children identify objects by touch. Place several differently shaped and textured objects into a box. To keep the child from seeing the objects, you can either blindfold each child before his/her turn or cut a small hole in the box just big enough for their hand.
