Golden Porridge

 

Ingredients:

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
2 cups 1% (low-fat) milk
1/2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. brown sugar
1 cup walnuts, optional

Directions:

In a large saucepan, bring milk to a boil. Combine oats and cinnamon. Mix into milk. Return to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes or until mixture has thickened. Remove from heat and mix in brown sugar, vanilla and walnuts (optional).


Yield: 2 cups
Serving Size: 1/4 cup is a grain for a 3-5 year old for breakfast.
