History for Kids: Exploring Earth Day

What is Earth Day? Earth Day is a special day when people get together to appreciate the planet earth and find ways to fight pollution.

What is pollution? Pollution is stuff that makes our land, air, and water dirty.

What can we do about pollution? There are lots of things that we can do right in our own homes and neighborhoods to help keep our earth clean. Some ways that young children and their families can help are:
  • ~ Recycle at home
  • ~ Pick up litter in your neighborhood
  • ~ Plant a tree

Litter Bugs Craft Project

Gather a variety of items from your recycling and trash such as egg cartons, newspapers, bottle caps, shredded paper, tissue paper, ribbon, and paper towel tubes. You'll also need some scissors, glue, and markers. Help the children to create their own "litter bug" by assembling together the discarded items.
