Feet First Learning

Put a whole new spin on spelling with this "Twister" style word game.

The only things you need to play this game are a black marker, a notebook, and some open space.

Start by having all of the children remove their shoes and socks.

Next, print a letter on the bottoms of each child's feet, using the following list. (Yes-it tickles!)

A-3
L-2
B-2
M-2
C-1
N-2
D-1
O-1
E-2
R-1
F-1
S-1
G-1
T-2
H-1
U-2
I-1
W-1

You'll need the feet of 14 kids to complete this list. If you have just seven kids, write the letters on both their feet and hands to fill out the list.

Next, print the 1st word on the list (summer fun) in large letter on a piece of notebook paper. Hold it up for the kids to read. After reading the words, the kids need to arrange themselves so that their feet (and hands) spell out the words. They may need to wrap their limbs in, out, and between each other to get the letters in the right places. School-age kids can assist their younger friends in getting letters placed in the correct spot.

When the word is completed, select one person who's letters were not used in that particular word to be the "teacher" and check to make sure their word is spelled correctly.

Then start the process again with the next word, until the summer spelling list is completed.
